In this scenario the trainee is responding to an active shooter event. The trainee has already made entry to the building and is in a hallway where there is a female victim who appears to be deceased is on the ground. The location of the active shooter (AS) is still unknown and there is still an active threat. Branching options for the training officer will allow the trainee to articulate their commands to the armed subject while maintaining situational awareness in an unknown hostile threat environment.
The training officer will select one branching scenario.
Intro (7 Second Delay): The intro will begin with a woman who has been wounded and a man armed with a weapon crouched behind a trash can down the hallway. The TO will be able to select from three branching scenarios.
Surrender: The AS will raise his hands and surrender. This will end the scenario.
Open Fire: The AS will stand up and begin firing at the trainee. The AS will remain stationary while shooting. The scenario will end when the threat has been neutralized.
Cover and Fire: The AS will use the trash can as concealment and begin firing at the trainee. The AS will begin shooting and moving to a position of cover. The scenario will end when the threat has been neutralized.

This scenario will engage the officer’s situational awareness, proper use of force, tactics, and proper use of cover. The trainee will need to recognize the ongoing threat and the need to neutralize the active shooter before rendering aid. When initially beginning the scenario, the trainee will be presented with a woman who is wounded and pleading for help. The trainee should recognize that there is an ongoing threat and not focus on providing aid.
Surrender:
Recognize that there is an immediate threat with a victim deceased from gunshot wounds.
Scanning the area for possible threats and recognizing that the AS is crouching behind the trash can.
The trainee should present the appropriate use of force, use verbal commands, and use available cover.
Trainees should raditheir position and current situation.
Weapon Presented:
Trainee recognizes that a weapon has been presented.
Trainee uses appropriate use of force response when presented with an immediate deadly force encounter.
Trainee should move ta position of cover.
The trainee is dispatched to an active shooter event. The trainee has already made entry to the building and is currently in a hallway. The location of the AS is unknown.
The trainer TO will be able to discuss the importance of training for active shooter events.
TO should discuss the importance of constantly scanning and knowing where possible cover is in case of a lethal force encounter.
TO should discuss the dangers of a gun fight in a hallway.
The TO will be able to discuss the proper use of cover.
